The news from the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting has horrified and saddened an entire nation and has left virtually everyone asking “why” or “how” such a terrible thing could happen.
It would be good for us to know that there is a moral obligation that comes when asking certain questions. I don’t mean a question like “What is the price of tea in China?” but when we individually or as a nation ask how someone can enter a school and kill 26 people including many young children we have obligated ourselves morally in the asking. To what are we morally bound? To honestly want the answer. To ask this question and really not want the truthful answer is not only cruel, but is an evil itself for the matter is too important and serious to inquire into and then refuse the truthful answer. Lives are in the balance as we seek the answer. How tragic, how evil it would be to have the real answer to this question available and to pretend to want it but to then refuse the answer when it comes.
If it isn’t clear where this is all heading, let me state it plainly… I am convinced that though America is repeatedly asking why Adam Lanza would murder as he did, I do not believe we want the answer. I’ll wait for the shock and horror to die down as I imagine some will think this a terrible assertion and untimely. But I sincerely, emphatically, believe that we do not really want to know why Adam Lanza killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School because the answer is spiritual in nature, involves God and ultimately, you and me.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni confesses his nation’s sins. Read it here.
If America has a hope it will only come about by her people and leaders repenting of our sins. Will we? Will I? Will you? Yes, you.

Romans 2:4 “Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?”
Luke 5:4-10 “When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch.” Simon answered and said, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say and let down the nets.” When they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to break; so they signaled to their partners in the other boat for them to come and help them. And they came and filled both of the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw that, he fell down at Jesus’ feet, saying, “Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” For amazement had seized him and all his companions because of the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not fear, from now on you will be catching men.”
While it is true that God causes all those who come to know Him to fear Him, it is also true that it is equally the kindness of God that brings us to repentance.
As we see Peter coming to repentance and faith in the midst of this fishing trip, what is it that leads him to acknowledge his sinfulness? Not bolts of lighting, but two boats full of fish.

Isaiah 45:9 "Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker– An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth! Will the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you doing?’ Or the thing you are making say, ‘He has no hands ‘?”
MSNBC reports today that Chastity Bono (daughter of Sonny and Cher) is “undergoing the process to go to female to male”. This “process” has a very interesting and revealing word attached to it, “reassignment”.
Now let’s ponder things just a bit. For someone to be reassigned, they must first had to have an initial assignment. Where does the first assignment of one’s sexuality come from? Well, isn’t it from God? None of us chooses our gender, nor did our parents. Being born male or female is a decision of the Lord God.
Did God make a mistake when He assigned us our gender? If it would have been better for us to be the other gender wouldn’t God have done that from the very beginning? Is not a person’s intentional reassigning of their gender a statement that God did not know what He was doing when He gave the first assignment?
Don’t misunderstand me, I am not picking on Chastity, she is to be pitied and prayed for. But know this with a certainty, this increasingly common practice of changing gender (which I hate to tell some of us, does not change anything no matter what surgeons and legal documents seem to accomplish) is nothing more than an act of raw rebellion against the Lord God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”
The Bible speaks of sexual immorality and in terms that make it clear that it is displeasing to God. So displeasing that as the verse above declares, the sexually immoral will not inherit the kingdom of God. I am wondering today if such a thing as sexual immorality even exists to our minds? Are we willing to call anything immoral in regard to sexuality? There was a time when being unfaithful to one’s spouse was grounds for divorce in court and called immoral, not anymore. Do we believe that having sex before marriage or outside the commitment of marriage (fornication) is immoral? Isn’t it obvious that we do not?
Do we believe that men having sex with men or women with women is immoral? Far from it. Even though the Word of God condemns homosexuality and even our bodies testify to the immorality of these acts (disease, death and extinction) we still insist that the only immorality attached to homosexuality is calling it immoral.
I guess we are only left with bestiality and sex with children and in case you are not aware, having sex with children is a movement that is not without its advocates. What should be obvious is that once we depart from God’s Word which offers sex with blessing only to a man and a woman who have entered into the covenant of marriage, everything becomes allowable and we lose the very existence of immorality. After rejecting God’s Word on what basis do we call anything immoral? It is a marvel to me that we see the effects of smoking and are willing to call it wrong and seek to see it ended yet when we see disease and death result from sexual immorality we seek to find ways to continue in the behavior “safely”, yes, we urge people to have “safe sex”. Why isn’t it safe naturally?
Sexual immorality is one of the chief indicators that a person and a nation do not know God or have departed from Him. National immorality is also a precursor to God’s judgment on a nation. There is no holding steady when it comes to sexual immorality. Sex outside of God’s blessing is always the fulfillment of lust and lust is never satisfied. What once fulfilled lust loses its ability to satisfy and greater and deeper levels of immorality are needed to satisfy lust’s demands. Further and further down a person and nations go, destroying families, bodies and eventually souls for the sexually immoral will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Romans 1:21-28 “For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper…”
