Biblical womanhood and the end of abortion…

Posted by Gary on November 23, 2016

“And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.” Genesis 3:20

For decades Christians have longed and prayed for the end of infant murder. Sin has done many things to us but at the top of the list it has made us blind to the truth that human beings are more than tissue and flesh but bear the image of God. To dismember and vacuum from the womb a child is not just an attack on humanity but an attack on the God in whose image each child is conceived. The devil hates God and humans who are now the slaves of sin and held captive by Satan to do his will (2 Timothy 2:26) are blind (2 Corinthians 4:4) to the fact that Satan is at war with the image of God and uses infant murder repackaged as “choice” as his means to stamp out the image of God.

Donald Trump and Mike Pence both ran as pro-life candidates. While there is hope that Pence has genuine convictions as it comes to the unborn, Donald Trump’s commitment to life is questionable at best. For decades Christians have voted for pro-life politicians who have no more intention of overturning Roe vs. Wade than they do to walk in front of a locomotive or into a helicopter blade. To genuinely seek to end abortion in our country would be to take one’s political and perhaps physical life into their own hands.

Even if Roe vs. Wade were overturned, our women in droves have declared that they will resort to the coat hanger to end their pregnancies if necessary (I have written on this previously here). Just think about that for a moment if you would, a willingness to threaten a baby in the protection, nutrition and safety of the womb with a coat hanger, do we need any greater evidence that sin has ruined us? Not to worry, I am well aware that men are quite willing to have it so. Men by and large want to have sex without becoming fathers. A life for an orgasm is a fair trade in the eyes of many men.

The Word of God is where we find the truth of God and the will of God. It is only through Scripture that we can rightly understand who God is and who we are. At the heart of abortion is the claim of women that their bodies are theirs and that children are an option and if not, are disposable. Inherent in the gospel of feminism is a hatred of Biblical womanhood. The idea of woman defining herself as mother causes the gnashing of teeth by feminists. For decades now we have been told that true womanhood is self-discovery, self-advancement and strangely, womanhood is defined essentially as manhood. We seem to have arrived at enlightenment now that women can change their gender, be police officers, engage in combat and kill their babies wielding their almighty self-determinative choice.

Into this depravity, sin and darkness God’s Word speaks. What is woman? What did her Maker create her to be? What is her primary purpose? The answer for every woman is found in the first woman, Eve. By her very name (given to her by her husband of all things) we find that she is by very definition a mother. Eve is the first woman, the original, the prototype. In Eve God has made clear what He has purposed for every woman and what God has purposed is motherhood. Without Eve, none of us would be here.

Eve as she came from God would never have insisted that her body was hers. Eve knew very well and embraced the truth that her body was God’s and was given to her to glorify God by bringing children into the world, children made in the image of God. The insistence of women that their bodies are theirs is post-rebellion, post-disobedience, post-fall, it is the declaration of woman who will now die for her disobedience. You can rightly envision with every declaration from a woman that her body is hers an upward fist shaking at heaven.

Eve as she came from God loved her purpose. God gave her a womb and everything necessary to conceive, carry, nurture and deliver a child. God gave her love, gentleness, kindness and protectiveness for her child. All these virtues are summed up in her self-sacrifice, her willingness to give her very self for her child. It took sin to despoil woman of these things leaving in their place hatred, harshness and an unthinkable willingness to mutilate her child to be rid of him. Before the fall Eve’s concern would be the life and health of her child, post fall woman seems only concerned about her own health and life.

The claim of post-fall woman that she has the right to end her child’s life is simply Darwinism fully realized. The ability to end life means the right to end life. If you are stronger than someone else you can kill them, survival of the fittest. No one denies that a child in the womb cannot live without the willingness of his mother who carries him, this is the very point. To purposely murder one so vulnerable, dependent and needy makes clear that we are estranged from God, the author of life.

Scripture declares:

“And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.” (1 Timothy 2:12-15)

What does Scripture mean when it says woman “will be saved in childbearing”? Does this mean having a baby can atone for sin? Is she earning her salvation? No, it means that in embracing childbearing woman is repenting of the sin that led her to reject her purpose in God’s creation and that repentance along with faith brings salvation. The great demonstration of women that they have repented is their rejection of feminism and their embrace of their favored role as mothers and nurturers.

If abortion ever ends it will not be because Roe vs. Wade is overturned. Abortion will only ever end when women embrace what God so graciously created them to be, mothers.
